Netflix Instant Queue Fridays: La Moustache
Jeremy has asked me to write up a short piece every week highlighting a gem / piece of shit that is available via Watch Instantly on Netflix. With every current-gen gaming console, most computers, and other devices able to use this feature, there is literally NO excuse to not plunk down $10 a month for this service. Best of all, they have 4 seasons of Mythbusters so far and that makes for a LOT of Kari Byron stroking material. Anyway, let’s get on with this Friday’s modern masterpiece:
La Moustache
Ever read about a premise for a movie and know you just had to watch it? That’s what this film did to me. I read the little paragraph that Netflix provides and I knew that this was a film that could not be passed up. I knew that this was going to change my life. I mean come on, the basic gist of the film is that a man who has had a mustache for years upon years decides to shave it off. After doing so he proudly tries to show off his new clean-shaven face to his wife, but becomes a bit irritated when she doesn’t acknowledge this drastic change. As time goes on, not only does his wife and friends continue to not notice the change, but they begin to insist that he never had a mustache to begin with. The guy slowly goes batshit.
That is the entire film.
Don’t lie, you’re sold.
This is one of those movies that is pretty open to interpretation. If you need a film to hold your hand and walk you through the story, you might want to turn away. But if you are a human capable of thought and want to see an admittedly ridiculous premise acted out (acted out very well, by the way), then jump on it. This movie will keep you guessing though. I spent a good portion of time completely confused and by the end of the film I really didn’t make up my mind one way or another. Was he really mustache-less the entire time and going crazy as shit, or does he just have a mean-spirited bitch for a wife and a bunch of asshole friends? I say give it a watch and decide for yourself.
A Special Note: This is probably the most well-acted and classy film you’ll ever see in this section. Lord willing, it will not be the only film centered around a mustache that I share.

What the hell?
That’s the most bizarre premise for a movie that I am aware of, except of course for the Kalamari Wrestler. Which I couldn’t reccommend highly enough.
